Our Founder Patron

Sir Roger Norrington (1934–2025)

For nearly fifty years Roger Norrington was at the forefront of the movement for historically informed orchestral playing. Whether with his own London Classical Players in the 1980s or with his Stuttgart Radio Symphony or Camerata Salzburg in recent years, he sought to put modern players in touch with the historical style of the music they play.

Sir Roger was also a regular guest with many of the world’s major orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Philadelphia Orchestra and many more.

SOUTHERN SINFONIA seeks Artistic and Musical Director

Taunton, Somerset

Southern Sinfonia is seeking an exceptional and visionary Artistic & Musical Director to help shape the future of music and culture in Somerset.

Based in Taunton and developing an ambitious artistic partnership with the Brewhouse Theatre and potentially Hestercombe House and Gardens, and the wider community of Taunton, Southern Sinfonia is entering an exciting new phase — one that aims to establish Taunton as a significant cultural destination and Hestercombe as an important centre for classical music and the arts in the South West. The Sinfonia is also  keen to continue with its residency at Wellington School and encourage Music for Autism workshops across the South West.
